Waveney Lodge Fraternal Visit

On Wednesday 3rd November 2005 Three Worshipful.Brothers from
Lodge of Warwick travelled to the Installation Meeting of Waveney Lodge No.929 at Bungay in Suffolk ; a round trip of some 326 miles !

Leaving Warwick at 1pm we made our traditional stop for tea and
pancakes near Cambridge and arrived in plenty of time .

This fraternal visit follows a tradition which has been observed for a great number of years as one of our members has a younger brother
in Waveney Lodge and is a welcome visitor to our Lodge.

Three of us maintained this tradition to attend the Waveney Lodge
Installation Meeting who in turn, reciprocate and visit us each March
for our own Installation Meeting . Their ceremony is a little different
from our own, as those have the pleasure of attending will find out !

Waveney Lodge entertained us in their usual fine style ; there were
a total of  77 members and guests in the Lodge. Afterwards at the
Festive Board in excess of £300 was raised in aid of their charities by way of the traditional collection and a raffle with several prizes.

Three well travelled Brethren arrived back
in Warwick at 1.30pm following a
  diversion around Northampton, replete,
tired but looking forward to next year
  already

  Thankyou Waveney Lodge

The Sun Never Sets on Warwick Lodges

During his Mastership of the Lodge of
Warwick W. Bro John Walker-Smith
set himself the challenge of visiting
all the Warwick Masonic Lodges in
the World.

He personally took greetings from
Warwick , England to Brethren of all
Warwick Lodges and help unite three
continents.

It has been John's tremendous
work which has helped to cement
Fraternal links with the Worldwide
family of Warwick Lodges

This is John's Story.

I became so fascinated with how
Freemasonry had spread throughout
the World that during my term as
Master of the Lodge in 1999 I set out to
visit every other Lodge in the world
bearing the name of “Warwick”.

There are three that are acknowledged by
The United Grand Lodge of England:

Warwick Lodge   No. 160    United Grand Lodge of QueenslandAustralia
Warwick Lodge   No. 544    Grand Lodge of  the State of New YorkThe United States
Warwick Lodge   No. 16     Grand Lodge of Rhode IslandThe United States

Our first visit was the town of Warwick , Australia
- population 12,000 - situated about 70 miles inland
from Brisbane on the East Coast.

My wife and I were very kindly accommodated in the
home of a Mason who took time off work to show us
around and it was a wonderful experience.

During my visit I had the pleasure of joining The Lodge of  J.W.Jackson No.32 Mark Master Masons. Names after J.W.Jackson, who introduced Freemasonry to Queensland. Afternoon tea with the Mayor had been arranged who proudly showed us his Chain of Office - an exact replica of the Mayor’s Chain back home in Warwick , England.
Stone crest of the Washington Family      In August 1999 we set off for USA
and New York

Arriving at grand Lodge in Lower Manhatten the Grand Secretary gave us a tour of the 12 temples that comprise Grand Lodge ; each one furnished with its own theme such as Colonial ,French and Egyptian.

The pretty town of Warwick is about 60 miles north of New York .To mark the occasion the Mayor had declared it to be Masons Day in the Town
The Lodge Meeting was packed and I was surprised to
see about a third of the Members wearing jeans since
our own Lodge always meets in Dinner Suits /  Black tie
for every regular meeting

It was a very happy occasion, especially as the Master
from Rhode Island had travelled down with a party of 8,
and the Master from Warwick, Australia had also
made the special journey.

"AldersonHouse"
Watercolour painting by
W.Bro J.F.W  Reason
At every visit I took with me a copy of the painting of our own Lodge Rooms, and now I’m proud to say that Alderson House, High Street, Warwick, England is hanging in every other “Warwick” Lodge room in the world.

The friendship and kindness was over-whelming &  I still keep in contact with them all. I have to thank everyone for making our visits so special.

It was the happiest of times and was the greatest of pleasures to be associated with such fine, honest and decent people.
